High Chair Pads And Cushions

The High Chair Pad Is Usually Separate From The Seat

At the dinner table, adults sit in comfortable dining chair cushions. What about the kids? Even though mothers want their young children to be seated in soft, comfortable environments, booster chairs or high chairs for babies, infants and toddlers do not always feature cushioning. This is often true of the very high-end chairs made of quality woods.

Additionally, the default cushioning is usually of the removable sort. This flexibility of being able to buy or replace the pad is especially beneficial in the case of high chairs because they get very splattered and stained with food materials, despite being very durable in all other respects. People who like to restore antique or heirloom furniture will find that these detachable cushioning items very useful.

Padding

The two most common type of paddings or fill on the interior is foam and polyester - both are economically priced materials suitable for a product with a limited use time. Both are considered soft to the touch but polyester will have more support because it does not deform completely like foam. Polyester has the additional advantage of being able to retain heat, as it has tiny air pockets like down feathers. In fact, polyester fill is the major artificial substitute for down in home bedding products such as comforters. Our recommendation is that you should go for a polyester fill to maximize comfort and warm. Ensure that the padding is thick enough the backing does not end up collapsing under its own weight when placed onto the chair.

Surface fabric

Most fabrics need to be stain resistant as they will be subject to a lot of food and drink spillage. There are two types of stain resistant coverings - one of them is the cheap, widespread vinyl, and the other encompasses all the synthetically-woven fabrics. Vinyl is very easy to clean because it can be wiped with a wet cloth to remove virtually everything. However, vinyl found on seat pads are generally not very robust to tearing so if they are placed in a washing machine they are liable to be damaged. Synthetic fabrics are more flexible being made of synthetic threads that are able to take on coatings which inhibit bacterial and mildew growth. You probably get the idea that it needs no saying synthetics are also waterproof. You can learn more about the most sturdy fabrics by looking at the ones available for outdoor chair cushions. Color And Design

This factor is likely to be the least important in terms of functionality. But it is best to select a soft neutral color that does not show stains too prominently. Consumers should think about the color of the chair and how well it matches the designs on the high chair pad.

Configuration

High chair pads come in a number of configurations so we will describe the most complete kind - others will lack features here and there. A high chair pad should consist of two pieces - a top piece that is the backrest and a bottom piece that is a seat rest. Optionally small side arm pieces are attached to prevent stuff from dangling or falling out of the seat entirely. The entire thing is held together by either velcro or straps. Most certainly there will be ties or straps to fix the high chair cushion.

Care

Ideally the high chair pad should be easily washable in the washing machine because this tells you that the construction is sturdy enough to resist the vigorous churning of the rotor. But if you have your eyes set on something that is not machine washable, just make sure that the surface is stain, mold, mildew, bacteria and water resistant so you at least wipe it down with a wet cloth!
